Olive Baboon

Stronger than the Chacma, often confused with the Yellow Baboon... often stands it's ground when confronted by leopards. When the eyelids show the blue and it opens it's mouth, baring the teeth, it has entered the 'stage' of aggression.  Olive Baboons, are found mainly in East Africa from the savannas to the highlands of Ethiopia. Zoologists discovered the development of  'friendship' within troop members, previously unheard of in any animal species. They are classified as rare on CITES Appendix II*

Lion Wag

When on foot safaris, the most exciting find is that of a male Lion... exciting enough to send shivers to the spine. With the approach to look for a photo position, one knows when to stop, by the famous tail wag... even the facial features become intense. It's then time to press the shutter and press back to the Jeep. When people are in a vehicle, lions cannot select them as individuals; instead, they see humans as an extension of the metal work.

Elephant Askari

This large bull elephant, is known as an 'Askari' and will certainly develop into a massive tusker. Askaris are bull elephants of an adult age that are normally found grouped with one or more of the very largest of old bulls, being taught the ways of survival by the old masters. These are also the most dangerous of elephants you can find. To mind comes the time when I tried to photograph a big tusker in the area of Shingwedzi, and some of the Askaris surrounding it actually charged me, as if to protect the older bull. Here I photographed it from a different angle to the customary side or frontal view. Photography is all about variables in composition... and no, I was not up a tree.
